Oppo- I’m getting closer to getting a new car and wanted to get your thoughts on I the resist all/like interior/exterior protections are worth it.

Edit-my thoughts were confirmed, not worth it.

No. this isn’t 1970, paint is not that fragile anymore. Plus, when I read this kind of stuff from their website:

ResistAll NG2 is our latest and most advanced exterior and interior protection. The science behind ResistAll NG2’s exterior protection takes advantage of positively-charged particles to combine with the negatively charged surface of a vehicle. A wet exterior facilitates the movement of the positive charge, enabling it to attach to and spread over the negatively-charged painted surfaces through electrostatic attraction. The protectant also includes nanoparticles , which create a hydrophobic high gloss finish.

that kind of mush-mouthed buzzword overload immediately pings my horseshit detector.

Wax does the same job. tip: if someone is trying to sell you a solution to a problem you didn’t know you had, you probably don’t have that problem in the first place.

But then I have to wax it! Hahah, I’m. That was my thought as well, just wanted to get confirmation. Thanks!

I don’t believe in this stuff and wouldn’t pay any extra to get it. The dealer from which I bought my Mazda claimed that they apply paint and fabric protection at no extra charge to every car they sell, but that was not even remotely a factor in making my purchase from them; the fact that they had the rare car I wanted and sold it to me for 20% off MSRP were more important factors.

About 7 months after I bought the car I had left a rear window cracked open a bit during a massive thunderstorm. The stains on the seat from just rainwater tells me that the fabric protection, if it was really there, wasn’t worth a damn. Don’t waste your money on these so-called ‘miracle’ products. If such things actually existed, don’t you think it would be in the best interests of the OEM to incorporate them right from the factory?

There are any number of nice ceramic coatings out there now that will do the trick for less than $100 for the product. I used the sonax stuff on my S8 a month ago and couldn’t be happier with the results. Easy to apply and so far lasts better than a wax. It keeps my car looking cleaner than a wax as well. It was an $80 product. I think I ended up paying $65 after promo code on autogeek. I bought another kit for my Pacifica minivan as well, but I have some dings to get taken care of before I apply it.

The only thing that would be better is a vinyl wrap, but that’s very pricey.

Absolutely not. I sell cars, and I hate that add on. I get that the dealer wants to add some extra profit to the deal, but at least add something the customer can see and touch.

I worked at a Toyota dealer that added door handle cup protectors and pinstripes. It was nice as it was at least tangible.

Dealer tried to sell me this on my Solstice back then. I just told them detailing my car is my therapy.

No, paint is incredibly fragile now. I had flakes off within 500 miles, and I’m far from alone. I’m not saying buy dealer things, but water based paint is now incredibly fragile.

While I’ve never heard of Resistall.

I do have experience with Gtechniq C1+which is a coating that increases scratch protection which does work and there are many such products that do. They have upped their game with Crystal Serum Black (accredited applicator only) and Crystal Serum Light (can be applied by the experienced at home applier).

The video below is at KDS Keltec down in Gillingham, Kent, England. Kelly at KDS has worked closely with Rob Earle at Gtechniq product testing before getting signed off with both an accredited applicator version and an experienced applicator version.

As with any application of it’s sort. Go to a professional detailer or do it yourself (if you have the experience). Car dealerships while some tend to be good, also tend not to care as they’ve got your money and if anything goes wrong can easily turn the tables and say you haven’t cared for it properly or did something to degrade the product.

Interior protections are not as robust and need periodic care and reapplication (either quarterly, biannually or yearly at most). They also will only protect so far.

from the finance end, these products are all profit. I laughed at a dealer the first time she told me she was selling “seat protection” to a customer.

Sort of related, depending upon what you’re looking at, quite a few new cars come with a complimentary service plan built in to the purchase of them. That’s a nice plus IMO and it transfers to the used buyer as well.

flaking off at 500 miles sounds like flawed body prep causing poor adhesion and delamination. no coating you or the dealer can apply will prevent that.

That’s pretty standard for “Eco-Friendly” water based paint.

IMO, a “ceramic” coating is worth it. Check with your local, high-end detailer. I’ve been using Gtechniq on my cars and been very happy with it. Much better than wax (dirt sticks to wax) this is hydrophobic and makes keeping the car clean much easier. Cost me $750 for my guy to do a deep buff (black car had some swirl marks) and add the coating. Should be cheaper on a new car. I’d also add a clear bra to the nose and rocker panels.

Shameless plug for my own work - use a good, high quality paint sealer yourself. I did my car up like a giant coat of wax. It was 50$ for the bottle and some applicator pads. I figure I’ll get 3-4 applications out of the bottle before it’s out and I’ll have some extra pads. Your paint will not only look 10x better, but it will also protect it from water and light dirt since the sealant on top will act as a sacrificial layer. You can even put some paste wax on top for an extra thick, buffable coating.
